Global Warming Season in Phoenix

Fire and brimstone

I’m trying to imagine how the Arizona Republic its feature story for the website today…”Should we lead with unemployment rising to 9.2%?  No, no, everyone knows were in a recovery…Debt ceiling negotiations, maybe?  Nah, those wingnuts are just going to hold the country hostage anyway…Wait!  How about a mid-summer story about global warming!”

Arizona Republic leads with global warming story on hot day

We all know it’s an oven outside.  It’s July in Phoenix and temps have been hovering around 110 degrees for the past week or so.  Some might even say it’s normal.  But obviously the doomsday preaching is best served on a hot day.

From the Republic:

“Sometime before the end of this century, we will cross that critical threshold where the Earth will be committed to 4, possibly more, meters (13.2 feet) of sea-level rise that could occur at a rate as high as a meter per century,” said Jonathan Overpeck, a UA professor and atmospheric scientist.
A notable change would be higher temperatures, including 130-degree heat in July by the end of the century, Overpeck said.
Well played, Arizona Republic.
