Governor Jan Brewer is enjoying a significant bounce in the polls since signing the new illegal immigration law, SB 1070.  Even though she potentially alienated her conservative base by endorsing the Prop 100 sales tax increase, it appears that she has locked up the Republican primary.

Her closest Republican challenger, Buz Mills, is 27 points behind and Brewer now leads Democrat Terry Goddard 52% to 39%.

Brewer’s support for SB 1070 was initially widely considered a riskly political move.  But a new poll shows that support for the immigration law in Arizona has increased to 71% and other states are now considering following Arizona’s lead on illegal immigration enforcement.

This past week, Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, both outspoken critics of SB 1070, admitted they hadn’t read the short 20-page Arizona bill.

Governor Brewer, increasingly confident in her support for the controversial law, seizes on her critics’ reading omission in the amusing video below.
