At Brandeis University next Thursday, students will be treated to an interdisciplinary conference, “A New Right Wing Radicalism. A Transatlantic Perspective.” A swastika emblazoned with “New Right Wing Radicalism” serves as the conference logo.

Part 1, The European Perspective, will focus on anti-semitism, hate crimes, and the resurgent neo-nazi and skinhead movements. Part 2, The US Perspective, will confront that major threat to tolerance and civil society, you guessed it, the tea party movement! Chip Berlet, billed as an “investigative journalist,” will discuss “From Tea Parties to Armed Militias.” No, he’s not joking.

Mr. Berlet doesn’t seem to have noticed that tea partiers, like our founders, champion individual freedom and small government. If I were a Brandeis parent paying $50,000 a year in tuition and living expenses to have my child exposed to this rubbish, I would be having second thoughts.
